Rosh Hashanah - the Shofar's Call and the Messiah's ReturnSample

Crowning the King
A central theme of Rosh Hashanah is the reaffirmation of God's kingship. The Jewish people celebrate God as the King of the Universe (Melech Ha'Olam). Many prayers and songs of the feast are dedicated to crowning God as sovereign over all creation. Tradition teaches that on this day the world was created and that God became King.
The Bible shows us that the Messiah, from the beginning, is the King of Israel and of all creation. In Psalm 47, the psalmist calls for the nations to clap their hands and submit to God, for He "reigns over the nations." The culmination of this kingship is seen in the Messiah, Jesus. The apostle John describes Him as the one who has a name written on His thigh: "KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS." Jesus will not only come as Judge, but as the King to whom all authority has been given.
Personal Application: Have you crowned Jesus as King of your life? Recognizing His kingship is not just a prayer, but a daily submission of every area of your life to His government. Let this day be an opportunity for you to consciously surrender control of your life to Him.
Call to Intercession: Pray that the eyes of the Jewish people will be opened to recognize Jesus as their promised King. May they, who long for a king to reign, see that He has already come and will return to govern over the Earth from Jerusalem and forever.
