DAY 17 OF 30

Mutual Encouragement

“That you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith” (Romans 1:12)

When Paul longed to visit the believers in Rome, his goal was not to deliver a sermon and then move on. He wanted to live alongside them. Mission, at its best, is reciprocal—we give and receive, teach and learn, bless and are blessed.

In God’s kingdom, everyone is made in God's image and is an equal participant. Encouragement flows both ways—sometimes in equal measure, sometimes in unexpected ways. A story from Scripture, a shared prayer, or an act of hospitality can strengthen hearts across cultures, languages, and circumstances.

This dynamic is lived out daily in ministries around the world. Those who travel to serve in other contexts often find themselves profoundly shaped by the faith, perseverance, and hope they encounter. Global personnel enter as learners and companions, seeking to notice and celebrate the ways Christ is already at work through local leaders. In turn, those leaders are encouraged by the presence, prayers, and solidarity of their global partners.

Mutual encouragement also changes how we see our own challenges. When we hear how God is sustaining believers in a refugee camp, a rural church, or a bustling city, we find new perspective for our own faith journey. Likewise, our stories of God’s faithfulness can breathe hope into the lives of others.

In a fractured world, this back-and-forth encouragement is both a testimony and a necessity. It renews strength when challenges threaten to wear us down. It restores vision when our view of God’s kingdom grows dim. And it reminds us that we are part of the interconnected body of Christ, joined by the Spirit across every distance.

Reflection Question

Where have you recently experienced mutual encouragement in your faith journey? How can you offer that same encouragement to someone else this week?

Prayer

God of all comfort, thank you for those who have strengthened my faith. Teach me to be attentive to the gifts of others and generous in sharing my own, so that together we may walk in hope. Amen.

About this Plan

Global Gospel

Global Gospel is a 30-day devotional exploring what it means to join God’s mission in the world. Through Scripture reflections and personal stories from diverse regions, contributors share moments of entering new communities as the stranger and finding welcome through Christ’s love. As you pray and reflect with the global church, may these voices inspire you to live out the gospel—nearby, across cultures, and to the ends of the earth.
