21 Days of Prayer; a Devotion on JohnSample

John 3 | God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son
God is Love, and so he loves, and God’s love is universal and so he loves the whole world. Not the globe, although he loves that which he made, but the people, all people, people like you and me, made in his image, made for intimacy with him. And because God loves, God gives, and in giving God sacrifices, and in sacrificing, God suffers, giving up his Son. God loves, and so God acts to counter our No to him, our rejection, and self-willing and ignorance. God will not entertain our No. God’s yes to us is louder and stronger. So God in love moves towards us, as one of us, the Word made flesh, love in body and blood, love destined to die as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. And all who believe in him, who look to him, who say yes to him, who give themselves to him, who love him, who receive him, will live with him – will not perish, but will have life with him, eternal and life to the full.
