21 Days of Prayer; a Devotion on JohnSample

John 2 | Water into wine
The wine ran out. The wedding celebration ends with a whimper. Disappointment for the guests, and in a culture of honour, shame for the family. The hosts will never live it down. Mary sees it all and she knows there is only one person present who can turn the situation around. And so Jesus steps up, and takes control, and works his miracle of water into wine; he makes a difference, he averts a disaster, he brings the party to the party and he reveals his glory. Jesus here inaugurates his ministry, and as he begins so he finishes, a ministry marked by the alchemy of grace. The wine-taster’s testimony on tasting Jesus’ wine, “you saved the best ‘till last” – when Jesus is invited to intervene, that’s what we may expect.
