21 Days of Prayer; a Devotion on JohnSample

John 17 | Jesus is praying for you
John 17 is known as the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus. On behalf of his disciples, and also on behalf of all Christians - the people of God - through time, Jesus dedicates us to God the Father - like the high priest of the Jewish temple. He prays for our unity, our sanctification, our protection, our joy, and even that we would know the love with which the Father loved Jesus himself! We are given an intimate and extraordinary insight into the prayer life of Jesus. And what does he pray for? He prays for you. It’s a special feeling when we receive a text from a friend out of the blue telling us that they’ve prayed for us that day. I feel encouraged, known, remembered, and ever so slightly bolder to face the day. But how much more ought we feel emboldened and held up by infinite peace when the friend praying for us is Jesus himself - the Alpha and the Omega. In John 17, Jesus prays for us, but we also know that He has never stopped praying for you. Romans 8 tells us that Jesus is, even now, interceding at the Father’s right hand for us - always putting your name before the Father in heaven, praying that your ‘joy would be made complete’.
