Living in Light of the End: A Call to Prayer, Love, and Service

DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3: Hospitality: Welcoming Without Grumbling

Devotional:

1 Peter 4:9 (NIV): says, “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.”

Biblical hospitality goes far beyond hosting dinner parties, it’s a lifestyle of open hearts, open homes, and open hands. In Peter’s day, hospitality was crucial for the survival and flourishing of the early church, as believers often relied on each other for shelter, food, and fellowship. Today, it remains just as vital for building community, fostering discipleship, and demonstrating God’s love in tangible ways.

But Peter doesn’t stop at the command to be hospitable, he adds, “without grumbling.” Hospitality is rarely convenient. It costs us time, energy, and sometimes comfort. That’s why our attitude matters as much as our actions. The way we welcome people reflects how deeply we understand the welcome Christ has extended to us. When we open our homes and lives with joy rather than resentment, we reveal the generosity of Jesus to a watching world.

Reflection: How can you practice hospitality this week? Are you willing to open your life to others, even when it’s uncomfortable?

Prayer: Lord, help me to welcome others as You have welcomed me. Let my life, my words, and my home be a safe haven where Your love is felt and seen.
