Saying Yes to the Call

A calling is not just something we admire from a distance, like it doesn’t concern us—instead, a calling requires, if not demands, a response. Jesus called Matthew, and Matthew had a choice: stay in his (semi-)comfortable life or step into the unknown on the road to redemption. He chose to follow—he chose to go and leave it all behind.

In The Chosen (Season 1, Episode 7), we see that moment play out. Matthew hesitates for just a wee second. But then… he stands up, leaves his table, and walks toward Jesus. It’s a pivotal moment in his life, a decision that changes everything.

Following Jesus doesn’t always mean leaving everything behind—abandoning perhaps your career, your studies, your mortgage, your friends, like Matthew did, but it does mean surrendering control. It means saying and living out, "Jesus, I trust You with my life." It means stepping into uncertainty with the secure faith that God’s plan is way better than we could ever imagine.

What is one step you can take today toward God’s calling? Maybe it’s serving in your church or neighbourhood—getting out of your comfort zone, reaching out to someone in need, or simply praying, "God, I am willing." Whatever it is, take that step today. Say yes to the call—and go!
