40 Days of Christ’s Sacrifice a Lent DevotionSample

The Essential Gospel
Christians have been given the mandate to preach the gospel to all humans. Essentially the Gospel is Good News for humanity. Those who repent of their sins, and believe in Lord Jesus Christ will receive forgiveness of sins, and eternal life.
1) Eternal Christ: Lord Jesus Christ is eternally pre-existent and self-existing Son of God. (John 1:1) “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)
2) Historical Christ: Angel Gabriel appeared to Virgin Mary and announced that she will conceive a male child by the Holy Spirit, overshadowed by the Highest, who will be called Emmanuel, who will save people from their sin. (Luke 1:28-35; Matthew 1:21) He was born in Bethlehem, grew up in Nazareth. Then Lord Jesus took baptism to identify with humanity and John the Baptist could point him as Lamb of God to the Nation of Israel. “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29) Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross of calvary shedding his blood for the forgiveness of sins, buried and rose again on the third day.
3) Contemporary Christ: The risen Christ alive today and forever. He appeared to disciples and over 500 people for 40 days after resurrection.
4) Ascended Christ: “And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:9-11)
5) Coming Christ: Lord Jesus is coming again in glory as the Judge of humanity. (Revelation 22:12) Then all saints will live with Him through eternity.
