40 Days of Christ’s Sacrifice a Lent DevotionSample

Who I am and Who I am not?
There was a politician who was offered the position as the President of the country. He politely refused saying: “I know my height.” It is not about physical height, but his stature and calling. People like to reach the top by hook or crook. John the Baptist was clear, who he was and who he was not. (John 1:20-23) He confessed, he was not Christ, but also, he knew he was the voice in the wilderness preparing the way for the Lord.
Who Am I: This is a question that bothers any thinking person? A young father sings a lullaby to his son in Tamil language: “Why are you born my son; Even before I know why I was born; why are you born.” Yes, many people come to their dead bed not knowing who they are?
Who I am not: When people do not know who they are, they assume our culture/family/society ascribes something to them, which is not true? An incompetent person like Rehoboam could become the king succeeding Solomon. Jephthah’s mother was a prostitute, he was ridiculed by the society. He gathered some worthless fellows and became their leader. The elders of Israel gave him leadership. (Judges 11:1-11)
Identity and dignity: A person could realize who s/he is, only when he comes into the right relationship with God the creator. When a person repents from sin, accepts that Lord Jesus Christ did die on the cross for our sins, buried and rose again, will become a child of God. (John 1:12) This gives true identity and dignity for a person.
Meaning and purpose: In the world there are two options as Paul describes. There is no third option. A person could be dominated by sin and Satan that s/he becomes an instrument of unrighteousness. Instead, a person could choose to become instruments of righteousness used by God. (Romans 6:12-14) People in the world would like to use us and dispose of us. When God uses a person, it is a glorious experience.
Do I have identity, meaning and purpose in Christ?
