40 Days of Christ’s Sacrifice a Lent DevotionSample

Covenant relationship
One of the special attributes of God is His relationship that is sealed by a covenant. God expects the following response from His people. (II Kings 17:35-40) “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!” (Psalms 50:5) Those who accept Lord Jesus Christ are faithful ones. They have made a covenant with God the Father through the sacrifice of His Son, Lord Jesus Christ.
1) Fear God: The people of God should fear Jehovah the Sovereign, self-existing eternal God of Heaven and Earth and no other false gods or their representations.
2) Worship God: They should worship the Lord in splendor of holiness, truth, and spirit. (Psalms 29:2; 96:9; John 4:24)
3) Serve God: God expects people to serve God in steadfast love, joy, and obedience. If the people of God do not serve the Lord with joyful and glad hearts, they will be punished to serve enemies “in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and lacking everything. And He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you.” (Deuteronomy 28: 47-48)
4) Sacrifice to God: Until all sacrifices were ended by the supreme sacrifice of Lord Jesus Christ, the Old Testament saints were expected to offer various prescribed sacrifices unto the Lord. Yet, Samuel taught that obedience is better than sacrifice. (I Samuel 15:22) New Testament saints are expected to offer sacrifice of lips, praise, and thanksgiving. (Hebrews 13:15)
5) Obey His Laws: Children of Israel were exhorted to serve God by fulfilling all His commandments, especially the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20:2-27)
6) Forget not His works: Forgetfulness is common human nature, especially all forget good things, including God’s works. David talks to his inner person, not to forget all the blessings or benefits received from the Lord. (Psalms 103:2)
7) Forget not Covenant: The people of God should not forget their covenant with the Lord. Such forgetfulness would lead to loss of identity, dignity, and relationship with the Lord.
Am I faithful to the holy covenant with the Lord?
