The Purpose of Independence

We all want to fit in. We want to have our place, feel valued, and belong to something. Whether it’s a spot to sit at lunch or finding your role in a team, these things give us a sense of identity. But how much value do they hold? If our worth is based on these temporary things, they can be taken away in a moment.

The truth is, your worth is not determined by where you sit, who you hang out with, or what you achieve. Your value comes from something much deeper—your Creator. You were made in the image of God, and because of that, you carry incredible worth. No one can take that away from you, because they didn’t create you.

Knowing your value is the foundation of your identity. But God doesn’t stop there—He has so much more for you. As you walk in your identity, you begin to see the bigger picture of why you’re here. A part of that journey is something we all strive for at some point: independence.

There’s something in us that longs to be independent. We want to accomplish things on our own, to say, “I did it!” Independence is a good thing—it’s part of growing up. Even Jesus grew in independence.

God has called you to something bigger, but you can’t stay where you are forever. Independence helps you walk into your identity and calling. However, like any tool, it can be used the wrong way. Independence isn’t just about doing things on your own—it’s about discovering how to grow into who God created you to be.
