21 Days to Overcome Stress

DAY 6 OF 21

My Life in My Hands

I wonder how many sermons I have heard in my six decades of living. I have surely listened to thousands of scripturally based, well-thought-out, three-point sermons in my life!

I have heard hundreds of pastors, evangelists, and teachers expound on the Word of God, and it has stirred my very soul. I have read books beyond count, written by the greatest theological minds, not only from my generation, but also from generations past. And I wonder how many times I have read the Bible through, from cover to cover.

How many times have I turned those sacred pages and feasted on the sustenance that only comes from the Scriptures? After all that, I should know what the Bible says, right? However, I was recently reading my Bible and was absolutely gob smacked by Psalm 119:109.

I have always believed that my life was in God’s hands - and it is. He is sovereign, and He is most assuredly the God of all authority. Yet, He has also given us free will to choose Him or not…to choose well or not.

He has given us the power to determine what levels of stress we will allow in our lives. He always offers peace and rest to His children, even in the midst of chaos and busy living. I know that peace and rest are His will for my life. However, I have the option to choose Him or not, and in that respect, my life is in my own hands.

What an extraordinary verse for those of us who are stressed out, run-down, anxiety-ridden, overwhelmed, and weary all the time!

My life is in my hands, and I must listen to God’s voice and then choose to obey it when I am determining my time commitments and activities. As we reorder our priorities and clean out our closet of commitments, we must be very certain to embrace an eternal mindset rather than a temporary delusion.

Every decision must be made and every priority must be set with eternity in mind rather than with only earth’s demands in view.

DAILY DEPOSIT:

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. – John 14:27 NASB 1995
