Come Closer

DAY 5 OF 14

Have you ever been in a restaurant, talking to someone, but the music is blaring, silverware is clattering, and people are arguing at the next table.
And suddenly you realize: I can’t hear the other person at all.
Their voice is there—but it gets drowned out.
Not because it’s too quiet—but because everything else is too loud.

That’s what it’s like with God sometimes.
Not because He’s silent—but because there are so many other voices around and inside us.

Our world is loud.
Our minds are full.
We scroll, listen, read, react, almost without pause.
And even when things are quiet on the outside, the noise inside continues:
To-do lists, expectations, worries.

Distraction isn’t just noise—it’s distance.
It separates us from what truly matters: Connection. Attention. Closeness.

Elijah experiences this firsthand.
He is exhausted. Overwhelmed. He feels alone.
His environment is loud: Threats, doubts, fear.
And God?
He doesn’t meet Elijah in the noise—not in the wind, not in the earthquake, not in the fire.
He’s in the gentle whisper.

Do you know why?

Because whispers mean closeness.
We can only understand a whisper when someone is right next to us.

God doesn’t shout at Elijah—because He’s not far away.
He whispers—because He is near.
Right beside him.
Right beside you.
In God's presence, Elijah not only hears His voice—he hears truth: You are not alone.
I am still here.
There are still 7,000 who believe. I’m still in control.

God meets him not in spectacle, but in stillness.
And that changes Elijah’s perspective.

Maybe today is your moment—to become still, to listen for God's whisper.

“Jesus, what inside or around me is currently drowning out Your voice—and where do You want to meet me anew if I become still?”
