You're standing at the checkout, wanting to pay quickly, entering your PIN—beep, wrong.
No problem, you know the code. Second try—beep, wrong again.
And suddenly, a little storm of thoughts breaks out:
“Did I type the wrong code? What was the number sequence again?”
The people behind you start sighing and rolling their eyes.

Doubt comes faster than we’d like.
Just a moment ago, you were sure—and now suddenly you question everything.

That’s exactly how Moses feels when God calls him.
It’s not a small task he receives, but a massive mission:
“So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3:10 NIV)
A calling from God Himself—but Moses doesn’t react with wonder; he withdraws inwardly.
With questions.
With objections.
With doubt.

And it’s not just the overwhelming nature of the moment—it’s also his past.

Moses once had influence, raised in Egypt’s power center.
But then everything broke down:
He killed a guard, fled into the desert, and left everything behind.
He was gone for forty years; not just geographically, but inwardly too.

Moses is a refugee.
Forgotten—even in his own eyes.

But now, God encounters him.
In the middle of the desert.
In the middle of his past.

Moses asks:
“Who am I to appear before Pharaoh?” (Exodus 3:11 NLT)
“What if they won’t believe me or listen to me?” (Exodus 4:1 NLT)
“O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now…” (Exodus 4:10 NLT)
“Lord, please! Send anyone else.” (Exodus 4:13 NLT)

And God?
He doesn’t say, “Come on, Moses, you’re amazing!”
He says:

“I will be with you.” (Exodus 3:12 ESV)
“Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?” (Exodus 4:11 ESV)
“Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” (Exodus 4:12 ESV)

God’s response to Moses' doubt is not a pep talk—it’s closeness.
Not persuasion, but relationship.
Not: “Be strong,” but:

“I am here.”

Maybe you feel the same.
You believe—and still sometimes think:
“Why me of all people? I don’t have anything special.”
Or simply:
“I don’t feel like someone God could use.”

Here’s the good news:
God doesn’t call you because you shine—
but because He goes with you.
You don’t need to know everything, do everything, fix everything.
You may come with your doubts, your scars—even just your uncertainty.

Because closeness to God doesn’t mean you’re already finished.
Only that you’re honest—and willing.

“God, where am I doubting—myself, You, my path—and what do You want to speak into my life today?”
