Make Your Job Count for Eternity

DAY 5 OF 5

Stay in the Game

Today, stay in the game.

Our last activity for making our work life matter forever is to stay in the game. Staying in is just another word for abiding. In many of our Bibles, we're told to abide in Christ. We want to continue walking with him all the time. In John 15:4 (NASB1995), Jesus tells us,

"Abide in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me."

One week doesn't change our career. Don't beat yourself up if you fall out of connection with the Lord Jesus during a regular work week. It's hard to stay in the game. When I first started trying to follow Jesus at work, I would realize that I would go days without thinking about him or my faith.

But in the moment when we think of that, we can get right back in the game. Like Isaiah prayed in Isaiah 6:8 (NASB),

"Here I am! Send me."

Jesus will put you right back in the game. Stay as close to him as you can. Resist the temptation to think you are disqualified. You are. Only Jesus' death qualifies us for service to God.

You can't be good enough. Be who you are and watch Jesus work. Our job is to get in the game and stay there.

Today, let the Holy Spirit make your job matter for eternity. Simply tell him, "Here I am," and he will use you in the lives of every person you meet, whether they're coworkers or customers, or vendors or friends or family.

Action Prayer

Lord, today, and going forward, may I abide in you and trust you as I do my job. Here I am. Use me. Today, my day is yours. Help me get a daily habit of "punching in" with you and being your ambassador to the people I meet. You are almighty and I am grateful to be part of your plan. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.

Amen.
