Make Your Job Count for Eternity

DAY 4 OF 5

Deliver Excellence

Today, we want to deliver excellence.

Colossians 3:23-24 (NASB1995) says,

"Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord, you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve."

We're called to go the extra mile. Low-quality work is selfish. We're told in Romans 8:28 (NASB 1995),

"God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, and to those who are called according to his purpose."

When we know that God causes everything to work for our good, we're free to give a little more. We're free to go above and beyond. We're free to give others the advantage in this world, knowing that God will make things right. This knowledge allows us to freely serve others while we deliver excellent work. We make room for others.

Excellent work is the cost of admission to integrating our faith into the workplace and making our work matter forever. If we do sloppy work, no one will care what we think about Jesus. Poor quality work will turn others away from our faith and from our Lord. Once we follow Jesus, everything we learn about him should make us more generous with our time and our attention and our energy.

Because He is in charge, we're free to give others the advantage, knowing that God will make it right in the end.

Today, let's do everything we can to deliver excellent work, and not excellent in my judgment, but in the eyes of your supervisor or your customer. Your excellence may open their eyes to a new or closer relationship with Jesus, and that's worthy of eternal rewards.

Action Prayer

Lord, today, show me where I can do better. Prompt me to go above and beyond what others expect so that you are glorified. And may my extra effort create an awareness of you in others. Thank you for calling and using me today.

Amen.
