Living One: A Study of Integrity in Hebrews

DAY 5 OF 15

Day 5: Send me

How strange and wonderful it is that God should ask a question. What could possibly stir his curiosity? What might he inquire about? In this moment, God is seeking someone to send on a mission. Of course, it’s not that he lacks knowledge of who will respond. Yet, he extends an invitation, not a summons, offering it to those whose hearts are ready.

God could easily have commanded angels to carry out his will, but he chooses instead to involve surrendered, willing servants—humans who will say yes.

Isaiah’s response was immediate and emphatic. There was no hesitation. He longed to be the answer to God's question. What formed such a heart in Isaiah? Just moments before, he had encountered the overwhelming glory of God—a moment that transformed him. In that holy presence, surrender became his most natural response.

Isaiah’s transformation brought about a perfect restoration—marked by precision, position, proximity, and purity. This new state of being led to a restored sense of purpose. He became a living example of what it means to be changed by the presence of God.

And he knew: others needed this same experience. In view of God’s mercy towards him, Isaiah chose to return to the people and share what he had seen and known. What qualified him to go on God’s behalf? Nothing, except that he had seen God—and had been changed by him. His authority didn’t come from personal merit or religious credentials, but from divine encounter.

When we sense God’s calling, we may immediately turn inward, measuring our own worthiness or growth in character. Often, we disqualify ourselves. But the liberating truth is this: God desires to use our personal transformation as a means of transformation in others.

David understood this. After his darkest failure, he came to see that his own restoration was not only for his sake—it was a gift God intended to use to draw others to himself.

Prayer reflection

Lord, here I am—not because I am worthy, but because I have seen your glory and been changed by your grace. Lord, here I am, send me!
