Win–Build–Send | Stories to Encourage You to Grow in Your Faith and Join God's Mission

DAY 6 OF 30

Jesus Modeled Care—So Can We

Have you ever received help when you had nothing to offer in return? That kind of love is unforgettable—and it’s how Jesus changes lives.

In 1996, war broke out in my country—the Democratic Republic of Congo. I fled my home in Kiliba. I went first to Kalemie and later into Zambia. After some time, I was taken to Meheba refugee camp. Life was painful and uncertain. I had no home, no food, and no hope for the future. But in the middle of that hardship, I met people who showed me something I didn’t expect—love without conditions.

It wasn’t preaching that reached me first. It was care. Christians shared meals, listened to me, and prayed with me. Their kindness gave me strength. Later, in Zimbabwe, I met Campus Crusade for Christ missionaries. They cared not only about my faith but also about my whole life. They walked with me, helped during my wedding, and treated me like family. Their humble love showed me the heart of Jesus. That’s what led me to become a missionary too.

That’s exactly what we see in Mark 1:40–42. A man with leprosy came to Jesus and said, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” This man had been pushed away, living with shame and pain. Jesus didn’t hesitate. He touched him and then said, “I am willing. Be clean.” That touch restored more than his body. It gave him back his dignity.

When this man came to Jesus, he wasn’t only looking for healing. He also longed to be seen, touched, and accepted. Jesus didn’t just speak truth—He lived it. He modeled care with His actions.

Today, you can do the same. People all around us are hurting. Before you speak, listen. Before you correct, care. Before you preach, love.

That’s what I experienced. The missionaries didn’t give me sermons—they gave me presence. That opened my heart to Christ.

You don’t need to be famous or perfect to live like Jesus. You need to notice and be willing. There is hope when we choose to lead with love, not just words.

Application Questions:

  • Who in your life may feel unseen or forgotten right now? Has someone loved and cared for you when you least expected it?
  • What act of kindness can you offer today to reflect the heart of Jesus?

Prayer:

"Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us what love looks like. Help me to notice those who are hurting and lead with kindness, not just words. Use my actions to reflect Your heart and open doors for others to know You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."
