The RevivalSample

New Purpose
As much as I don’t like drinking lukewarm coffee, I don’t want to be a lukewarm Christian. But before Jesus truly rescued me, that’s exactly what I was. I was neither hot nor cold. I had one foot in church and one foot in the world. I was always trying to figure out how close I could get to the line of sin without actually crossing it. In Revelation 3:16, Jesus is addressing the church of Laodicea. Lukewarmness is a picture of indifference and compromise – halfhearted Christians who aren’t going to change the world. Jesus is reviving us and calling us to be on fire for Him, living with single-minded focus on our new purpose.
Isaiah is a great example of someone God revived with new purpose. God was looking for someone He could send to be a mouthpiece to His people: someone willing to lean into the purposes of God and go. If you feel a strong compulsion to go in a new direction, for God’s glory and the good of the world, pay attention; there is a divine commissioning taking place. God is still looking for willing, surrendered, servant-hearted volunteers all around the world. When God asks, Isaiah boldly says, ‘Pick me!’ And you can do the same!
Isaiah’s response would’ve been so different had he not been on fire for God – revived in his faith and ready to obey. He might’ve been fearful, instead of offering God his unwavering yes. I wonder how many of us the Lord has tried to call, but we just haven’t been willing to answer, ‘Send me.’ Isaiah wanted to be the answer to God’s question. What lengths would you go to, to be the answer to the same question? It won’t be easy, but the work is necessary.
We can only accept the call if we have experienced a revival in our lives. There is so much work to be done – the fields are ripe for harvest – and yet few are willing to go out and reap. God is searching the earth for those who will take up His purposes on earth. During today’s workout, repeat to yourself, ‘Here I am. Send me.’ I also invite you to pray: Jesus, thank You for reviving me and giving me new purpose. I know that the harvest is plentiful, and I want You to send me to work the fields. I’m willing to do whatever You ask. Here I am. Send me.

About this Plan

The psalmist prays, ‘Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?’ (Psalm 85:6) In this seven-day reading plan, Christian Huff explores the truth about revival – how God transforms us from the inside out, making new creations of us and giving us a new heart, a new source of strength, new purpose, and new direction.
