The RevivalSample

New Source
As we continue to think about all the ways God revives us, it’s helpful to remember that we’ve been given a new source of life and love. In John 15, Jesus paints the picture of Himself as a vine, and of us as the branches attached to Him. We’re created and called to be deeply, abidingly connected to the source of all life: Jesus. In the botanical world, the root system of a vine absorbs water and nutrients from the soil. These are then transported to the branches of the vine through the trunk. The analogy Jesus gives us is that, as believers, we are the branches attached to Him, the vine, but only in so much as we’re abiding in Him. If we’re not abiding in Him, then we are not connected to the source, and we won’t bear fruit or sustain life. Jesus makes it clear: if we abide in Him, we will bear much fruit – qualities like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – but away from Him we wither.
Perhaps you’re wondering what it actually looks like for you to abide in Jesus – on a regular Tuesday morning or Wednesday afternoon or Friday night. We abide in Jesus by spending dedicated time practicing spiritual disciplines like reading the Word, praying, and fellowshipping with other believers, but also by simply talking to Him throughout our daily doings and dealings. Be encouraged by the truth that, any time of the day or night, you have access to the Living God, the source of hope and wholeness. He is never far away, and He longs for you to draw near to Him and abide in Him.
Today, during your workout, remind yourself that you can tap into God’s power source. Picture yourself as a branch – attached to the vine – bearing sweet fruit for the glory of God and the good of those around you.

About this Plan

The psalmist prays, ‘Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?’ (Psalm 85:6) In this seven-day reading plan, Christian Huff explores the truth about revival – how God transforms us from the inside out, making new creations of us and giving us a new heart, a new source of strength, new purpose, and new direction.
