RUN WITH PURPOSE TOWARD GOD’S PRIZE OF FREEDOM
1 Corinthians 9:24 (NLT): "Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!"
Mindful Minute: We are taking this challenge because there is a behavioral habit that has taken control of our lives in a significant and sometimes debilitating way.
Changing behavior takes preparation and training, just as any runner knows preparation and training are required to successfully complete a race. Oxford’s definition of the verb race is, “Compete with another or others to see who is fastest at covering a set course or achieving an objective.” Our focus in this verse relates to how we will run the race we choose to enter.
We have committed to this race called 30 days of freedom from a life-interfering behavior. The purpose is to remove the habit that has created havoc in our lives so we may experience a new and better way of living. The behavior has become an idol in our lives, holding a place more important to us than our relationship with God.
Our godly instruction for the race we choose to enter is that we must “run to win.” We are in this for the prize of seeing who we get to become and who we were intended to be from our Creator’s perspective after removing this harmful behavior.
Prayer: Father, in this race for 30 days of freedom from this behavior that has caused me to lose integrity with myself, I am committed to running this race for the win. I will keep my eyes focused straight ahead, as I know you have better plans for me. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
