THROW OFF THE OLD AND EMBRACE GOD’S BEAUTIFUL NEW PLAN
Ephesians 4:22-24 (NLT): "Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy."
Mindful Minute: There is a consequence we are suffering as a result of lust and deception in something dealing with worldly desires.
We were deceived into believing relaxation, comfort, and peace came from the pleasures of this world. We now have a rearview mirror to reflect on the deception that those pleasures represented because of the psychological slavery they created within us. The good news is that our thoughts and attitudes can and will be shifted by focusing our attention on God and allowing the Spirit to renew them.
We do this by being in His Word daily, meditating on Scripture, and reflecting on the wisdom embedded there. Being led by the Holy Spirit is freeing and allows us to experience the new nature He offered to us by trusting in Him. Our faith in the work that Jesus did on the cross creates righteousness and holiness in us.
Holiness simply means that we have been set apart for a higher moral purpose, and righteousness means that we have been morally set apart because of the work Jesus did on the cross. Praise God for these gifts given to us by grace.
Prayer: Father, I do want to throw off my old, sinful nature regarding this behavior that has created sin in me. I acknowledge that a very deceptive way of thinking was involved in my reasons for engaging. I understand how this habit created sin in my life. I want a renewed mind and way of thinking. I look forward to the future and my new nature as I walk this path with you. Thank you, Jesus, for paying the price for my past sins and creating holiness and righteousness within me. I want to honor you in my walk today. Amen.
