How Does Faith in God Affect Our Emotions?Sample

Hope
“We rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:2 ESV)
As the well-known saying goes, ‘While there’s life, there’s hope’. The Bible gives us a different perspective: ‘While Jesus lives, there’s hope.’ And since He conquered death and is alive forevermore, this hope will never fade.
For many people, hope is a feeling that comes and goes, depending on their circumstances and emotional well-being. When they are healthy, their work is going well, and their children are doing well in school, they look to the future with hope. But when adversity or illness strikes, their hope fades.
The hope that God gives us is radically different. It looks forward to the glorious future that will break through when Jesus returns. Hope in the Bible is always connected with faith and with God's grace. This hope can provide support even in the most difficult circumstances. We see this with Job, who suddenly lost everything that was dear to him: his children, his wealth, and his health. He was close to despair! Yet he clung to God. “For I know that my Redeemer lives … whom I shall see for myself.” (Job 19:25-27 ESV) That is true and steadfast hope!
Do you feel hopeful today? What is your hope focused on, and what is it based on?

About this Plan

We all experience emotions, both positive and negative. When God’s Spirit lives in us, He transforms and renews us from within. How does this impact our emotions? Should Christians experience emotions differently than non-Christians?
