How Does Faith in God Affect Our Emotions?Sample

Anxiety
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” (Psalm 56:3 ESV)
In Psalm 56, we get a glimpse of the tension between fear and trust that David is experiencing. His circumstances are desperate. All day long he is threatened by enemies and that’s a frightening experience! And yet, in those fearful moments, he expresses his trust in God. The act of trusting God is not a simple technique to make his fear disappear just like that. David has to remind himself repeatedly: “In God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” (Psalm 56:4 and 56:11 ESV)
Other poets described their experience as follows:
“God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea.” (Psalm 46:1-2 ESV)
That's quite a statement! Such an attitude is only possible if you truly believe in a good and almighty God who has your best interests at heart.
How do you deal with feelings of fear? Do you often suffer from them, or not? If you feel afraid, could the examples from the Psalms mentioned here help you to trust in God in spite of your fear?

About this Plan

We all experience emotions, both positive and negative. When God’s Spirit lives in us, He transforms and renews us from within. How does this impact our emotions? Should Christians experience emotions differently than non-Christians?
