Day 17: El Chay – The Living God
Devotional:
The name El Chay means “The Living God.” This title emphasizes that God is not a distant, lifeless idol or an impersonal force but a dynamic, living being who interacts personally with His creation. El Chay is alive, active, powerful, and present in the lives of His people.
In Deuteronomy 5, Moses reminds the Israelites of their encounter with God at Mount Sinai, where they heard the voice of the living God speaking from the fire. This moment was awe-inspiring and life-changing because it tangibly revealed God’s power and presence.
God Is Alive and Active
El Chay reminds us that God is not a concept or an idea but a living, breathing reality. He is actively involved in the world and our lives right now.
Throughout Scripture, God demonstrates His living nature, performs miracles, hears prayers, responds to needs, and sustains all life. Our God does not only move in the past but is still intimately engaged with His creation every moment.
The Contrast with Dead Idols
In the ancient world, many worshiped lifeless wooden, stone, or metal idols. These idols could neither speak nor act.
El Chay stands in stark contrast to these powerless gods. The living God is sovereign, powerful, and worthy of worship because He is alive and able to intervene on behalf of His people.
Experiencing the Living God Today
Trust in El Chay is believing that God desires an active relationship with us. He speaks, guides, and moves in our lives just as He did with Israel.
We can experience God’s presence through prayer, worship, reading Scripture, and obedience. The living God invites us into a vibrant relationship where we can grow, be transformed, and find hope.
Living in the Reality of El Chay
Knowing God as the living God challenges us to live with faith and vitality. It means trusting that God is present even when circumstances seem bleak.
El Chay gives us life, spiritual, emotional, and physical. Jesus, the resurrected Savior, embodies El Chay perfectly. He offers us abundant life (John 10:10) and calls us to live in the power of the living God.
Jesus, the Living God
Jesus reveals God’s living nature through His resurrection. His victory over death is proof that God is alive and powerful.
When we follow Jesus, we become part of God’s living community, alive in Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and commissioned to share the hope of the living God with others.
Prayer:
El Chay, the Living God, thank you for being not distant but alive and active in my life. Help me to experience your presence daily and trust your guidance. Teach me to live with faith in your power and love. Thank you to Jesus, who conquered death and offers me an abundant life. May I walk boldly as a child of the living God. It is in the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
Reflection Questions:
- How can you deepen your awareness of God’s presence in your daily life?
- In what ways does knowing God is alive affect your faith and hope?
- How can you share the reality of the living God with those around you?
