Jesus Is…The Great I Am

DAY 3 OF 4

Day 3 - Jesus is...the Door and the Good Shepherd.

John 10:1-21 (ESV)

Devotional: In John 10:11 (ESV), Jesus declares that "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." If you are in Christ, you are one of His sheep. Through this declaration, Jesus illustrates His love, care, and protection for His people. Like a shepherd who looks after his flock, Jesus is devoted to those who belong to Him. He does not just feed His sheep; He laid down His life for them. Jesus' sheep recognize His voice. They can distinguish His call amid the brokenness of the world, and they follow Him in trust and obedience. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to give abundant life (John 10:10 (ESV)). Only in Jesus can we find a Shepherd who never leaves us. In fact, He protects us with His own life by sacrificing Himself for us. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He is faithful, loving, and worthy of our trust. A few verses earlier, in John 10:7-9 (ESV), Jesus says, "I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture." Jesus not only protects His flock, but He also is the way in. He is the only entrance into safety, peace, and provision within God's Kingdom. It is only through Jesus that we can be saved. Jesus does not just open the door; He is the door.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being my shepherd. Lord, I completely rely on You. You are faithful, loving, and worthy of our trust.
