7 Devotions to Help You Discover God’s Restorative Power

DAY 4 OF 7

Trust in the Restoration Process

"Agree with God, and be at peace; thereby, goodwill come to you. Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart." JOB 22:21–22 ESV

Picture a box. Inside contains everything you carry . . .everything you don’t want to give up control over—all your fears, worries, and anxieties. All things from your past that continue to be unresolved, people you have not forgiven, things God called you to do but you decided not to do—you knew better and went your own way instead. Friend, the key to open and set free everything held captive in that box is to give it over to God and fully have faith that He will lead your life. You can trust Him in what He’s doing.

How?, you might ask. The first step to trusting God is to know who He is. If you know God’s character—if you know He is loving, faithful, and unchanging (Psalm 100:5; Hebrews 13:8)—then it’s easier to trust Him with what’s in your box. You can say “yes!” to the callings and directions He has for you, rather than thinking you can figure it out yourself. You can come to terms with how your life has played out, whether by your own choices or other people’s doings, and take the path that follows Him rather than choosing to go your own way. You can make the choice today to trust in His restoration process and follow His ways.

Do you trust God—like, really trust God—even with everything that came to mind as you pictured your box? Trust is so important in this restoration process. If you find that you lack trust in God, it’s okay. You’re not alone in this. You can build your trust by seeking to learn more about God’s nature through the Bible, prayer, and personal experiences. Read about His promises. (Isaiah 41:10; Philippians 4:19; and Romans 8:28 are good places to start.) Pray and surrender. Only then can you fully trust His restoration process and find peace.
