Timeless KingdomSample

In nearly every area of life, we are told we need to “keep up.” Whether it’s computer skills, nutritional guidelines, or parenting tips, we’re told we need to keep learning, keep growing, and keep adapting. “Keep up or you’ll be left behind,” we hear them say. There’s a certain wisdom to this kind of thinking, as it makes sense to make sure we’re not holding on to outdated information or irrelevant skills. The times change, and so must we. That’s what the people of Judah had done. They had moved on from keeping God’s commands.
They had pushed past celebrating God’s festivals. They had even forgotten what true worship of the Lord looked like. Then, one day, while repairs were being made to the temple, a book was found. It was the Book of the Law, and when it was read to King Josiah, he was grieved. By all measures, he had kept his kingdom up with the times, but he had left behind the Word of God. The result was that his kingdom didn’t look anything like the kingdom that God had envisioned for His people. Judah was in step with the times but out of step with the Lord.
As a citizen of God’s Kingdom today, are you doing everything you can to keep in step with the heart of God and His kingdom?

About this Plan

When something is described as timeless, it’s something that remains relevant regardless of when it came to be. It has staying power and a lasting impact. We long for something timeless. But what if that desire in our hearts is pointing to something more profound? In this devotional, we’ll look at how the longing in our hearts for something good that lasts is an echo of the God we are longing for in this life.
