NearnessSample

Brian “Head” Welch was the lead guitarist for the nu metal band Korn. But finding fame and fortune wasn’t enough to fulfil the emptiness in his life. Addicted to substances and overwhelmed, he picked up a bible in desperation and instead of finding condemnation, he found clarity, purpose, and mercy.
In the midst of chaos, he found peace in the word of God.
Psalm 19:7-10 speaks to that kind of power:
- The law of the Lord revives the soul
- His statutes bring wisdom to the simple
- His precepts give joy to the heart
- His commands give light to the eyes
God’s Word doesn’t just inform—it transforms. For Welch, it was more precious than gold and sweeter than anything he once turned to for comfort, and that’s the very language the psalmist uses to describe it.
Paul echoes this in 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV), reminding us that “all Scripture is God-breathed”—it trains and equips us for every good work. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 (ESV) that true life comes from “every word that comes from the mouth of God”. And James 1:22 (ESV) challenges us to “be doers of the word, not hearers only”.
Whether you’re a rock star or a regular soul, God’s Word is there to bring you life. As you read the word of God today, be reminded that it is powerful, transformational and alive.
Today, ponder this: Meditate on the passage today and ask God to speak through it to your mind and also to your heart. Find one takeaway in the passage and live that truth in your day ahead.
