Value Others More

The amount of time you spend on something shows how you value it. For example, if a man highly values a hobby, it gets his attention. But if he spends more time with his hobby than with his wife and kids, he shows that he cares more about it than he does them. It’s easier to get lost in leisure than to take time to improve our relationships. We must always place our loved ones first so that we will maintain our relationships even when times get hard.

This doesn’t mean that God doesn’t want us to take care of ourselves and do fun things. There is a time and place for this, but it must never take precedence over caring for others and developing our relationships. Look at how someone in your life is struggling today and take the time to serve them before doing something that you want to do. First Corinthians 10:24 reminds us we should always seek the good of others.

Action Step: Who in your life is struggling today. Allot some time in your day to develop that relationship by serving them. Perhaps you could treat them to a meal or help them with a project they need to get done.

Lord, teach me to value others above myself as you did. Help me to see the inherent worth in every soul and treat them with love, respect, and kindness. Let me emulate your selflessness by laying aside my desires to uplift and serve those around me, reflecting your grace. Amen.
