Career Challenges

Career challenges can be the result of a company’s economic struggles or because a recession rears its ugly head. The fear of layoffs, downsizing, and restructuring can linger over life like a bad dream. Our confidence is shaken as we wonder if we will continue to receive a paycheck. We may feel extremely vulnerable because our industry is caught up in change and consolidation. However, we can use these difficulties to draw us closer to Christ rather than trying to fix everything on our own.

Challenges at work are your opportunity to remain a dependable employee, partner, investor, or boss. For instance, make sure your attitude aligns with the Almighty’s big picture for your life. Your season of service to this particular company has been a gift from your Savior, and going forward, you are a much different—perhaps better—person than before. Use these days of uncertainty to stay engaged in your job. Remain an asset rather than a liability to your company. Your work is for the Lord first, so labor with passion, focus, and diligence.

Action Step: In times of uncertainty, we often forget to thank God for all the blessings he gives us each day. Throughout your day, make a list of all the ways God has blessed you in your current season of life.

God, as I face career challenges, grant me wisdom and perseverance. Help me overcome obstacles with integrity and determination. Guide my steps, open doors of opportunity, and strengthen my resolve to honor you in all I do. May these challenges refine me and lead to greater growth. Amen.
