The Thief of Everything

DAY 13 OF 15

Spending time with the people in your life who build you up is the best. Those are the people whose words give us encouragement, whose actions serve and support us, and whose presence lifts us. Honestly, aren’t those the kinds of relationships we all want? Being known, noticed, and accepted for who you are is so much better than feeling poorly about who you aren’t! That’s why, even as adults, who you spend your time with matters a lot! When you’re intentional about putting yourself around people who build you up rather than tear you down, you’ll find yourself less tempted to tear down or compare both yourself and others. More than that, you’ll find yourself living out Paul’s call to us all in Scripture: to mutually encourage one another’s faith.

So, the question is: How are you doing more than just looking for those people to build up and inspire you? How are you being that kind of person in the life of someone else? If we want to break the cycle of comparison, not just for ourselves but for others as well, we must follow the call to build others up, too. Today, send someone a text, leave someone a thoughtful gift, write a note, or make a point to encourage someone else with your words directly. However you choose to do it, look for ways to build others up this week.

About this Plan

The Thief of Everything

It’s easy to get caught up in comparison. We compare our thoughts, words, actions, relationships, and even our faith. Chances are, if we’re honest, we’d admit that comparison makes us feel a lot worse. It has the potential to steal our joy, self-image, peace, success, and faith. That’s because comparison is a thief. As we’ll see in this series, we’ll look at the secret to breaking the cycle of comparison.
