The Healing Power of Forgiveness - Erased by Love
Have you ever experienced heartbreak so deep that it felt like your heart might stop? As if every breath took effort, and your energy was completely drained?
I have.
It was a moment I’ll never forget, when God revealed a painful truth I wasn’t even searching for. I didn’t ask to know it, but suddenly, there it was. A secret was uncovered, and a rush of emotions came: shock, hurt, confusion. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The incident played on repeat in my mind like a broken record. I was stuck, weighed down by the heaviness of betrayal.
But one night, in my distress, the Lord directed me to a passage that spoke straight to my soul:
“Now, everything has been heard, so I give my final advice: Honor God and obey his commands, because this is all that people must do. God will judge everything, even what is done in secret, the good and the evil.”
—Ecclesiastes 12: 13–14 (ERV)
This Scripture gave me two revelations. First, my ultimate purpose isn’t to seek justice on my own; it’s to honor God and obey His Word. Second, I don’t have to carry the weight of judgment. That belongs to God.
That night, I prayed a desperate yet straightforward prayer:
“Lord, heal my heart. Help me forgive, because I don’t have the strength to do it alone.”
And then something happened…
The next morning, I woke up… lighter. The heaviness wasn’t there. The mental replays were gone. My heart didn’t throb with pain. It was like a divine exchange had occurred—my sorrow for His peace.
And then the Word came alive again:
“Most important of all, love each other deeply, because love makes you willing to forgive many sins.”
1 Peter 4:8 (ERV)
That word ‘many’ struck me. Other translations say, “love covers a multitude of sins”, but here it plainly says:
“Love makes you willing to forgive any wrongs.”
Yes, any wrongs.
That means the unfair ones, the ones that cut deep, and the ones that were never acknowledged or apologized for.
Love, God’s kind of love, enables us to forgive what our flesh refuses to release.
Forgiveness doesn’t make the wrong right. It makes your heart whole again. It restores peace where torment once reigned. It allows you to see the other person not through your pain, but through God’s mercy.
So today, if you’re still carrying hurt, know that: You don’t have to walk around heavy. You don’t have to rehearse what was done to you. Let God take the judgment. Let love lead you to forgiveness. And let peace return to your soul.
Prayer
Abba Father,
You see every wound, every tear, every unspoken ache of my heart. You know the weight I’ve carried and the struggle to forgive. But today, I surrender the pain to You. I ask you to heal what I cannot fix on my own. Help me to see others the way You see them, flawed, but still loved. Let your love flow through me so deeply that I become willing to forgive any wrongs. Remind me that my purpose is not to seek revenge, but to worship You and walk in obedience. Thank you for your peace, which guards my heart as I release what once broke me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection
1. Is there someone I need to forgive, even if they haven’t said sorry?
2. What “replays” in my mind do I need to surrender to God?
