The Power Of A Promise
In times when everything appears to be falling apart—when natural resources have run out, and the situation seems to have dragged on endlessly without relief—God does not first give us a plan or a product. He gives us a promise. A promise from God is not wishful thinking or motivational fluff. It is a seed of life meant to be hidden in our hearts and watered with faith, meditation, and obedience until it births fruit.
In 1 Kings 18, Elijah is instructed by God to show himself to Ahab, signaling that rain is coming—after three years of drought. God’s promise didn’t immediately shift the environment, but it initiated movement. Elijah, though still in the midst of famine, responded to a word that had not yet manifested. That’s faith: acting on what God has said, not what you currently see.
In the same passage, Obadiah had hidden 100 prophets in a cave—prophets who carried the Word of the Lord. This is a prophetic picture of how promises are preserved in hidden places, waiting to be rediscovered in famine. The promises of God are your spiritual storehouse. When life feels depleted, the cave of your heart must contain the treasure of His Word.
Chaos doesn’t mean you have nothing; it means everything is present, just out of order. Like God at creation, you bring order by speaking His Word. What you need isn’t more hustle or control—it’s alignment. And alignment begins with a promise. God’s promises carry the creative power to order chaos, restore hope, and anchor your soul through prolonged delay.
When your soul is weary, when your feelings betray you, your spirit must lead with the promise. What you don’t feel like doing—worshiping, praying, meditating on Scripture—is usually the very thing that will revive you. Faith is often revealed not in how we feel but in how we respond when we feel nothing.
Just as Elijah obeyed and saw provision in drought, and just as Obadiah nourished the hidden prophets, so must you nourish the promises hidden within you. Search them out. Cling to them. Speak them aloud. Let them reorder what’s been chaotic.
Reflection Questions:
- What areas of your life feel dry, prolonged, or without natural solutions?
- Have you hidden God’s Word in your heart, or are you relying only on memory and emotion?
- What is one promise you can take hold of this week and begin to speak into your situation?
Action Step:
Identify one specific need or area of delay in your life. Search for a clear promise from Scripture that speaks to that need. Write it down, speak it aloud every day, and meditate on it throughout the week—especially when your emotions resist. Choose to respond with faith, not sight.

About this Plan

"Seeing with Your Ears" is a devotional plan that teaches believers to prioritize hearing God's voice over relying on natural sight, especially during crisis or uncertainty. It explores how faith comes by hearing, emphasizing spiritual sensitivity, obedience, and trust in God's Word even when circumstances seem contrary.
