5 Days of Being Comforted by GodSample

A Heart with an Open Door
There are days when I cannot believe I’m here, walking this grief journey. How did I get here? I’m certain that at any moment I’m going to turn around and my daughter will be bounding through the door with that big, beautiful smile, saying, “Hey, Mama! What’s for dinner?” As the days turn to weeks and weeks into months, I think perhaps she’s just gone away on vacation, or she’s living in another city. Surely, this cannot be my life. Yet here I am, and I cry out, “Where are you, God? How could you let this happen?”
But when the unimaginable occurred and I wondered where God was, it was then I remembered, He isn’t just a Bible character from days of old. He’s my heavenly Father, and He knows what I am feeling. Even during the hurt, sadness, and missing of our loved one, we can hold on to His promise that during the hard times, He will never leave us. God isn’t a God of yesterday. He is as real and present today as He was 2,000 years ago, even if we don’t feel Him. My fellow grievers, I encourage you to open the door to your heart. Even if just a crack. Jesus longs to hold us in His arms, wiping away our tears, calming our fears, and releasing the angst we feel. He longs for us to invite Him in, where we can crawl up into His lap and bare our hearts to Him. (Isaiah 61:2-3)
Father, You already know how I’m feeling without me saying a word. You know the deep sadness within my soul and the longing for my loved one. Please be the lifter of my head and heal my heart from this overwhelming sense of grief. Make yourself known to me today, God, as I walk this road.
