Pathways to PurposeSample

In 1 Samuel 9, we meet Saul, who is searching for his father’s lost donkeys. This seemingly mundane task leads him to an unexpected encounter with the prophet Samuel. When Saul set out, he had no idea that his journey would result in him being chosen as Israel’s first king. However, God knew and had set Saul apart from the very beginning.
Have you ever felt like a task in your life was too insignificant to be part of God's plan? Like Saul, you may find yourself doing something that seems ordinary, yet God can use even the most mundane moments to lead you toward His calling. This passage reminds us that Saul’s journey to kingship began with something as simple as searching for lost donkeys.
God does not call the qualified—He qualifies the called. If He has chosen you, He will equip you. Your ordinary steps of obedience can lead to an extraordinary purpose.
We see in this chapter that Israel’s first king was led to his destiny by three lost donkeys. God used that situation to guide Saul, just as He often uses circumstances in our lives to direct us.
As you go about your daily life, even in tasks that feel small or unimportant, ask God how He can use these moments to equip you for His greater purpose.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for guiding my steps. I trust that each step I take brings me into alignment with You. As I walk in faith, reveal Your character and plans to me. When I feel unequipped, remind me that You have called me for a reason. Give me the faith to walk in obedience. Help me see purpose in the mundane and seek You in all that I do. Amen.
