Learning to Pray

DAY 10 OF 12

Praying in Twos and Threes

On the Farm of Prayer where the disciple lives many of the Prayer Fields involve praying with other believers. This can take a variety of forms, from praying with just a friend to praying with large numbers of believers in Sunday worship, at a conference, or even during a National Day of Prayer.

To pray with others is a deep joy and a source of strengthening from the Spirit.

Jesus assures us that just as it required two or three witnesses to establish a point in a Jewish court of law, so in the same way when two or three believers follow the Leading of the Holy Spirit and are in agreement in their request to the Father the matter is then settled and granted by the Father.

To pray in this way involves learning together over time how to follow the Leading of the Holy Spirit as you pray. It takes time and commitment, honesty, and patience to pray in this way, but the mutual sharing and concern for each other’s lives and ministries will create a very deep bond of friendship between you and your prayer partners.

Most of the deepest friendships I have formed in life have been with people I have prayed with. As you deny yourselves, take up your crosses and follow Him in this way you will watch and see the Lord bring in the Kingdom with Power just as He promised in Mark 8:34 – 9:1.

Those who pray in this way will know how exceptionally powerful this form of prayer can be. I saw this so clearly when several years ago I had the privilege of overseeing a number of Filling Stations Meetings. As time passed I watched the meeting leaders who committed themselves to praying together see many interventions of God in their meetings.

For this reason, it is wise for husband and wife and engaged couples to establish a pattern of prayer together. It does not need to be intense and it should never be forced by one on the other, but it will become the most powerful bonding in the relationship.

About this Plan

Learning to Pray

The many, many different forms of Prayer are like Fields on a large Farm. You and I are like a farmer living in the center of the Farm. As we pray we move from Field to Field, from one type of Prayer to another. We go into some Fields every day, others only occasionally. Come and join us in this Devotion as we explore what that might look like as we learn to pray together.
