After the CrossSample

One evening, after feeding over 5,000 people, Jesus told the disciples to go out on the lake so He could get some time alone with His Father. His dear friend and cousin John the Baptist had been cruelly murdered at the whims of an evil man, King Herod, and He needed some space. But after spending the night into the early hours of the morning, Jesus decided to catch up with His friends on the lake. So, He caught up with them by taking the fastest route—by walking on the water to them.

The disciples saw someone coming from the sea and they were, understandably, terrified. But Jesus spoke, identifying Himself and telling them not to be afraid. Peter responded: “Lord, if it’s you . . . tell me to come to you on the water” (Matthew 14:28). Jesus told Peter to come to Him, and Peter got out of the boat. And he walked on water to Jesus. He. Walked. On. Water. Feet above water. Gravity defied. The normal parameters of human life defied.

With Jesus, we are on the biggest life adventure. And with Jesus, we can do more than we ever thought possible. For a moment, Peter was brave and he got a glimpse of the Power of Faith in Jesus. What could we do if we trust in Him—not in our abilities, but in His?
