Dear Mama: God’s Not Done With Your StorySample

One More Chance (Anjeliah’s Story)
Dear Mama,
What do you do when you’ve failed… again?
When the second chance didn’t work? When you had a shot at freedom, at getting it right—and you blew it?
That was Anjeliah’s story.
She had been in a recovery program once. Then again. Both times, it ended the same: relapse, shame, and the weight of disappointment pressing down like a storm cloud that never moved.
She had children. She had hope. But when her twelve-year-old son watched her overdose, she knew she couldn’t keep doing this.
She sent a text to the ministry that had already given her two chances.
Please. I need help. Please let me come back.
They responded with grace: “Come by next week. We’ll take you back in.”
Do you know what gets me? It wasn’t the first or second time that finally worked—it was the third. Because this time, Anjeliah let God into every part of her. She didn’t just show up. She surrendered. She read the Word. She asked Jesus to tear out the roots of her old life.
And He did.
Now? She’s a house mom in that very program. She’s leading others toward the same healing she almost missed—because someone believed she was worth one more chance.
Maybe you need to know today that grace doesn’t run out. Not for you. Not for your kids. Not for your story.
God doesn’t just give second chances—He gives as many as it takes.
He is "rich in mercy," not stingy with it. He doesn’t look at your past and see failure—He looks at your heart and sees potential. He looks at your pain and sees purpose waiting to be born.
Proverbs 24 says, “Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” Not because they’re strong—but because God lifts them up. Every single time.
So, Mama, if you feel like giving up today—don’t.
Even if this isn’t your first time trying. Even if you’re scared it won’t stick. Even if you're the one who has disappointed yourself.
There is mercy for you this morning.
There is strength for you today.
There is a fresh start for you right now.
Jesus doesn’t give up on people. And He won’t start with you.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you ever felt like you used up all your second chances? What does God’s grace say about that?
- What would it look like to surrender everything—not just try again, but let God rewrite the story?
- Who in your life might need to be reminded that grace still applies to them?
Prayer:
Father, thank You that Your grace never runs dry. I confess that sometimes I feel too broken, too tired, or too ashamed to try again. But today, I choose to rise. I choose to believe that Your mercy is new right now. Teach me how to walk in Your strength and not my own. Give me the courage to take another step—even if I’ve fallen before. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
