Attributes of God on F.I.R.E.

DAY 28 OF 28

How can we glorify God?

Our God is eternally glorious and he shares his Glory with us, so we are to glorify God with our lives. Jesus addresses this topic in the Sermon on the Mount where He emphatically tells His followers to be “salt” and “light” in the world (Matthew 5:13–16).

As salt preserves and light illuminates, Jesus’ believers are to model His character to a spiritually decaying world. Jesus says to his Saints “you are the salt of the earth”, you're the preservers of the earth and you're also to cause people to be drawn not to water but to the Lord Jesus Christ. “You are the light of the world” is significant because in John 8:12 Jesus says “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Therefore, as He has tagged us to be ambassadors, we are commissioned: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Our good deeds as Jesus’ light in the world cause others to offer God the glory due Him.

In Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth, a city known for immorality, he first reminds believers that their bodies are members of Christ (1 Corinthians 6:15). Upon placing their faith in Jesus, the Corinthian saints “were all baptized into one body,” which is the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). Now they belong solely to Him. He goes on to remind them that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). Since these saints have been bought with the precious blood of Jesus, “glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20). This final admonition commands each believer to bring the Lord glory by living fully for Him.

Because God shared His glory with us, let’s habitually glorify him through godly living.

Employment Point: Glorify God with your life.

About this Plan

Attributes of God on F.I.R.E.

Attributes of God on F.I.R.E. is a topical study on the nature of God. We will examine fourteen of God’s communicable attributes or perfections that belong to Him that He also shares with us. This study will help us better understand the amazing nature of the Lord, and to pattern ourselves after Him. F.I.R.E. stands for familiarity, interpretation, relationship, and employment. We will use this methodology as we travel through the Scriptures together. Adapted from the book Attributes of God on F.I.R.E., by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
