Attributes of God on F.I.R.E.

DAY 24 OF 28

How can we obtain and then display Wisdom?

We would greatly lack wisdom from the infinite God if He didn’t provide the Scripture. Scripture gives wisdom for eternal life. In 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Paul tells us that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.” The term “all” is used comprehensively meaning the entire body of Scripture is inspired (NKJV) or “God-breathed” (NIV). As Paul instructed Timothy to “continue in the things which you have learned …” (2 Timothy 3:14), we are to habitually remain in the Bible because it is the means that the Father has chosen to make us “wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

Carefully studying scripture makes “wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7). It is the Bible that imparts wisdom to those lacking experiential knowledge concerning the complexities and challenges of life. Solomon dispenses wisdom throughout the book of Proverbs: “To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple” (Proverbs 1:1–4). In Proverbs 2, Solomon says of wisdom “if you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom” (Proverbs 2:1-6).God’s wisdom as given in the Holy Scriptures belongs to us if we are willing to pursue the timeless truths.

Since the invisible God is eternally wise, we should seek wisdom from Him and then put that wisdom on display for the glory of God. Jesus Himself is the ultimate example of wisdom in action. Jesus in His youth gives us an example of growing in wisdom that others could witness. Luke records, “And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him” (Luke 2:40). Luke reports, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men” (Luke 2:52). This is God’s design for all of us; let’s walk in His wisdom to display God’s eternal wisdom.

Employment Point: Seek, apply, and display God’s eternal wisdom.

About this Plan

Attributes of God on F.I.R.E.

Attributes of God on F.I.R.E. is a topical study on the nature of God. We will examine fourteen of God’s communicable attributes or perfections that belong to Him that He also shares with us. This study will help us better understand the amazing nature of the Lord, and to pattern ourselves after Him. F.I.R.E. stands for familiarity, interpretation, relationship, and employment. We will use this methodology as we travel through the Scriptures together. Adapted from the book Attributes of God on F.I.R.E., by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
