Attributes of God on F.I.R.E.Sample

How can we display the attribute of Blessedness?
We are blessed by the eternally blessed God who has lavished us with His mercy, grace, and love. As believers, we are seated in heavenly places, and our spiritual blessings and future remain secure. Twice in Ephesians Paul reminds the recipients of the letter of their supernal graces (Ephesians 1:3; 2:6). Romans 8:16-17 adds that “we are children of God, and if children, then heirs.” Our study of God's communicable attributes reveals how we are blessed through His holiness, goodness, grace, mercy, longsuffering, truth, faithfulness, and love. God’s love flows from His eternally blessed being.
It naturally follows that since God is eternally blessed, and we are blessed by the eternally blessed God that we reflect God’s blessedness by blessing both God and people. Blessing God involves acknowledging who He is and giving Him consistent praise, as seen in Psalm 113’s call to glorify God from sunrise to sunset.
As we are to bless God, we are to equally bless those whom we see with a need upon the path of life. Jesus gives us instruction in the Sermon on the Mount concerning blessing people. He instructs us to love our enemies and bless those who curse us (Matthew 5:43–48). Indiscriminately God loves and blesses all people. Each day the Lord blesses the just and unjust alike. We are called to reflect His eternally blessed nature by our actions to all people.
We should not on the one hand bless the Lord while on the other hand curse men. James warns against inconsistency in speech, emphasizing that the same tongue cannot bless God while cursing men, who are made in the mental, moral, and spiritual image of the Father (James 3:9–10). Our tongues are to regularly bless both God and people.
Employment Point: Bless both God and people.
About this Plan

Attributes of God on F.I.R.E. is a topical study on the nature of God. We will examine fourteen of God’s communicable attributes or perfections that belong to Him that He also shares with us. This study will help us better understand the amazing nature of the Lord, and to pattern ourselves after Him. F.I.R.E. stands for familiarity, interpretation, relationship, and employment. We will use this methodology as we travel through the Scriptures together. Adapted from the book Attributes of God on F.I.R.E., by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
