Miracles and Mysteries: Matthew 8-13Sample

Has following Jesus ever created tension in your relationships?
Jesus’ words here are startling. He did not come to bring peace, but a sword—dividing even families! At first, this seems to contradict Isaiah’s prophecy of the Messiah bringing peace (Isaiah 9:6-7). But Jesus is speaking of the cost of allegiance to Him. His Kingdom demands undivided devotion, and that devotion will inevitably create conflict with the world.
His call echoes the radical commitment God demanded of Israel in Deuteronomy 6:5—“Love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and strength.” The way of Christ is not a half-hearted endeavor. Those who cling to their old lives will lose them, but those who lose their lives for His sake will find true life.
Today, ponder this: Are there areas of your life where Jesus is asking for greater allegiance, even if it costs you?
