DAY 300 OF 365

A singular Psalm We now come to what is unquestionably one of the great summits in the Book of Psalms, and indeed all of scripture. With one hundred seventy-six verses, Psalm 119 is not only the longest Psalm but also the longest chapter in the entire Bible. And given the length of this particular Psalm, we're going to break from our normal format and spend the next five days exploring it. If anything is clear about this singular Psalm, it's the theme. There's no mistaking the focus of Psalm 119, for virtually every verse points to the same subject...the law of the Lord. When the expression "law of the Lord" is used here, it's speaking of that which God has communicated and revealed to man. In this instance, "law" can be interpreted as sayings, ways, or commandments. But in essence, the entire body of scripture is what's in view here. So the lengthiest chapter in the entire Bible is all about the Bible. Think that through for moment. What does that reveal to us about the scriptures? It shows us it's like an ocean without a bottom. There's no limit to their depth, and they are unfathomably awesome. It's as if God, by His Spirit, caused the Psalmist's heart to explode with divine inspiration by opening his eyes to the grand dimensions of His Word. And this Psalm is the result of that holy explosion. God's Word is remarkably unlike anything else. We start out thinking that we're reading it, but over time we see that it's actually reading us. The more we learn of it the more profound it becomes, and it would take more than a lifetime to fully express all that it is. Lord, may Your word have as much place in our lives as it has in this singular Psalm...and give us an unquenchable passion to walk in it. We now come to what is unquestionably one of the great summits in the Book of Psalms, and indeed all of scripture. With one hundred seventy-six verses, Psalm 119 is not only the longest Psalm but also the longest chapter in the entire Bible. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
