DAY 302 OF 365

True value! How different would this world be if this verse defined everybody's outlook? How many lives would be infinitely better off at this very moment if they truly valued the law of God more than gold and silver? How would the headlines read if humanity took this to heart? But we don't, and our world suffers for it. There's no denying it: Humanity is a dysfunctional race and the earth is a dysfunctional place. Why? In large part because man's values are so skewed. He generally attaches greater value to the wealth of this world than the wealth of the Word. Mammon commands his attention and obedience more than Jehovah, and we don't have to look far in order to see the fall out. Verses like this one stand out in bold contrast to our greed-infected and scandal-laden society. It turns the rules of this world upside down and shows us a way through mammon's maze...a way of true gain and prosperity, where wealth is found in what God has declared and not in what man can possess. Gold and silver and all they can buy us have a definite shelf life. They will only last so long before we break them, lose interest in them, or die. But the Word of God will outlast this world and every passing possession in it. It will endure in eternity, which is why we need to attach our sense of value to it. It will never fade or pass away. Which category do we fall into? Do we value what God has said above what we own or ever could own? We don't answer this question with our words...but with our lives. God, we want to value Your Word above all this world could ever offer us...we determine today to say with the Psalmist that it's better than thousands of coins of gold or silver. How different would this world be if this verse defined everybody's outlook? How many lives would be infinitely better off at this very moment if they truly valued the law of God more than gold and silver? How would the headlines read if humanity took this to heart? But we don't, and our world suffers for it. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
