DAY 239 OF 365

I'm OK, You're Not

All of us have been in a situation where we've been faced with something that's caused us to wonder, "Is it OK?" Maybe it was a movie that carried an R-rating, a song that had some questionable content, or a glass of wine. Whatever it was, there was enough doubt about it to bring us to the place of asking, "Is it OK?"

So how did you answer? "Well, you know I don't get hung up on the MPAA rating system, I see past the content on the screen and look at the overall message of the movie. That song, I don't even really listen to the lyrics, it's all about the beat. Wine doesn't do any damage to me either. I can enjoy it and stop whenever I feel like I need to. So yeah, I guess it's OK."

OK, but pretend you're not you for a moment. Pretend that movie is going to dominate your thought life for a week after you see it. Pretend that song is going to take you back to a dark chapter in your past. Pretend you're in the battle of your life right now and the enemy is alcohol. What then? Is it still OK?

The point is simply this...there are certain things that are going to be right for some while being wrong for others. While something might be OK for us, it might not be for those around us, and when that's the case our call to sacrificial living trumps whether or not we determine if it's OK or not. If there's any doubt or danger that our freedom might be bondage for others, then it's no longer OK.

If we're living sacrificially, as we've been called to, then we won't have a hard time accepting this. We'll value the well being of those around us more than any "doubtful things." Remember that the next time you're faced with something that makes you wonder, "Is it OK?"

Think about it...

What does this passage reveal to me about God?

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?

Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

What is my prayer for today?
