DAY 222 OF 365

10-The Power of One Paul has taken his readers on quite the journey. He took them down the deepest, darkest valley describing man's depravity and desperation, only to bring them up through the glorious revelation that as bad as man is, God is much better and has made a way of justification available through faith.

But being the ever-intuitive teacher, as well as being inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Apostle anticipates the doubters. "This all sounds too good to be true. How can this provision of faith be greater than the problem of man's sin? Can it really work?"

Heading this objection off at the pass, Paul takes us back to the very origins of sin. He goes back to Genesis and reminds us that it was through the act of one man, Adam, that the whole sin problem started (Romans 5:12). Again, it was by one man's disobedience that the problem came into existence.

That's important, because Paul goes on to explain that it was also by one Man, Jesus, that the solution to sin also came (Romans 5:15). Through Christ's act of obedience in dying for our sins on the cross, God made the perfect provision for us. Just as Adam ruined everything, Jesus was also able to restore all things. As powerful as Adam was in what he did, the Son of God is even more powerful in what He's done on our behalf.

Can you see how Paul is eliminating the argument that sin is too big for God to fix? It's fixable because the one act of Adam is cancelled out by the one act of Christ. And it's this act of obedience that we put our faith in, and which justifies us before the High Court of Heaven.

What does this passage reveal to me about God?

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?

Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

What is my prayer for today?
