DAY 220 OF 365

8-He Forgives You8-He Forgives You Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin. Romans 4:8 (NKJV) We've just been introduced to the glorious truth that God justifies us on the basis of faith and faith alone. This is such an important principle that Paul senses the need to camp on it for the next several verses. And as he fleshes out this idea, he takes the reader back to two Old Testament examples. The first example is David, who in Psalm 32 declares: "Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin." Keep in mind that this was written roughly 1,000 years before the book of Romans, and yet it's alluding to the same point Paul has been making. God is so gracious and good in nature that He doesn't impute sin. He doesn't hold our offenses against us or keep record of our wrongs. He's willing to fully forgive us...and He will once we exercise faith in His Word. Our next example is Abraham, who was declared righteous by God, not when he was circumcised, but when he simply exercised faith in God's Word to him. That's an important point, because the Jewish mind would automatically look at Abraham's circumcision as being essential to his justification. But Paul is careful to point out that Abraham was right with God years before he was ever circumcised. So it was faith, not works, that justified the Father of Faith. When we put these two examples together, we see a wonderful foreshadowing of the gospel of Jesus Christ. God forgives us of our sin, and it is faith alone that secures this forgiveness. It was true in David's day, it was true in Abraham's day, it was true as Romans was written, and it's true today. How blessed are we, whose sins have been completely covered by faith alone! Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today? God is so gracious and good in nature that He doesn't impute sin. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
