DAY 197 OF 365

A microcosm of our faith

Something becomes very apparent when you work your way through Psalm 7. You find it actually serves as a microcosm (or a miniature world) of our walk with the Lord. So when we read this particular Psalm, we're reading about ourselves to a large extent.

Here's how: As we live out our life here on earth, we go through trials, troubles, and temptations. Just as the Psalmist says, we go through a fair share of rough stuff here in this world. It's a battleground, not a playground. And as we go through these things, we can get beaten down and weary, so much so that we begin to question God. We start to interpret Him through the filter of what we're experiencing, just as the Psalmist does.

And then comes the great turning point in the Psalm and in our own lives-the fulcrum of our faith. We look at the record of what God has done in the past and we "remember the years of the right hand of the Most High." And when we do, it brings us back to a place of security and strength. It lifts our hearts heavenward, and we begin to see our troubles and challenges through the filter of God's goodness and greatness.

The past is a friend to those who belong to the Lord. When we look at God's involvement in our past, we see it as a testimony to His powerful presence and a witness of His unfailing faithfulness. It's an account that we can never exhaust and one that we need to draw from more frequently.

Faithful Father, as we face the future, may we never forget all that You've done in the past.

We look at the record of what God has done in the past and we "remember the years of the right hand of the Most High." And when we do, it brings us back to a place of security and strength.

Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
