The Best Choice In declaring God's goodness and favor, the Psalmist stumbles on a powerful truth: God is the one who chooses our inheritance. The word "inheritance" literally means "that which has been allotted," and so in a broad sense it speaks of what is given to us in life. We can't miss this point: God is the One who chooses what is allotted to His people. And from the Psalmist's perspective, this is a great thing! Why? Because along with the understanding that God is the One who ultimately chooses what happens to His people, there's also the understanding that He knows what's best for His people. There are a handful of questions out there that possess the power to define who we truly are. Questions that, when answered, reveal what our spiritual character is made of. Here's one: Do you believe God knows what's best for you? Our answer to this question really says a lot about us. If we don't believe God knows what's best for us, then we'll spend our lives struggling against what He allows and ordains for our lives. Life will just be one big "Why?" But if, on the other hand, we believe the Lord knows best, we won't spend our lives struggling but instead will be at rest with what God chooses for us. God's plans for our lives are always better than our own plans. We need to trust God's choice for us and rejoice in them. Heavenly Father, give us hearts of gratitude because You choose our inheritance for us. You always know what's best for us, and Your choice for us is always the best choice.
